An Ugly Pair of Shoes
Author Unknown
I am wearing a pair of shoes.
They are ugly shoes.
Uncomfortable Shoes.
I hate my shoes.
Each day I wear them, and each day I wish I had another pair.
Some days my shoes hurt so bad that I do not think I can take another step.
Yet, I continue to wear them.
I get funny looks wearing these shoes.
They are looks of sympathy.
I can tell in others eyes that they are glad they are my shoes and not theirs.
They never talk about my shoes.
To learn how awful my shoes are might make them uncomfortable.
To truly understand these shoes you must walk in them.
But, once you put them on, you can never take them off.
I now realize that I am not the only one who wears these shoes.
There are many pairs in the world.
Some women are like me and ache daily as they try and walk in them.
Some have learned how to walk in them so they don’t hurt quite as much.
Some have worn the shoes so long that days will go by
before they think of how much they hurt.
No woman deserves to wear these shoes.
Yet, because of the shoes I am a stronger woman.
These shoes have given me the strength to face anything.
They have made me who I am.
I will forever walk in the shoes of a woman who has lost a child.

A Man in Grief
It must be difficult
To be a man in grief,
Since “men don’t cry” and “men are strong”
No tears can bring relief.
It must be very difficult
To stand up to the test
And field calls and visitors
So she can get some rest.
They always ask if she’s doing all right
And what she’s going through,
But seldom take his hand and ask,
“My friend, but how are you?”.
He hears her crying in the night
and thinks his heart will break.
He dries her tears and comforts her,
But stays strong for her sake.
It must be very difficult
To start each day anew
And try to be brave~
He lost his baby too.

Sweet Baby Mohr
Written by Sylvia Coates
Please don’t worry, Mama and Daddy,
Everything will be okay!
I could sense something was missing
And I know what God would say!
Mama, you carried me, oh, so gently,
Careful not to bounce or shake,
Like I was something really precious
And afraid that I might break,
I could tell that you really loved me,
That was easy as could be:
I felt your eyes were softly shining,
Every time you talked of me.
I guess I always had the feeling
That your world was just too big
And on your sturdy “family tree”
I was just too frail a twig.
Just suppose, Daddy, as I grew older,
I couldn’t be full strength and size,
When you tho’t I wasn’t looking,
There’d be sadness in your eyes.
I don’t think it’s without purpose,
It must have been God’s providence:
You gave ME life, an awesome miracle,
I briefly gave YOU pure innocence.
I was blessed with such abundance,
I felt the radiance of your love:
So many touched me with compassion
Before my flight somewhere above.
There were “beings” waiting for me,
Into their welcoming arms I came:
They must be angels, they’re so lovely,
Tho’ I’m not too good at names!
So, hug my memories closely to you
And maybe one day, God who cares,
Will send another child to cherish,
Not to fill my place, but theirs!

Forget Me Not
By Christine Lechowicz
Forget me not, for I am with you
In the beat of your heart In the depth of your soul, too
Forgive my parting too soon and leaving you there
Feel my presence in your next breath on the whisper of your prayer
My spirit is with you on good and bad days
I share each moment with you still
Let me count the ways
Cry for my help when you need to and reach for my hand
I will be there to lift you up when you can not stand
Live each day in the moment and remember to smile
I will be waiting for our reunion, it will just be awhile
Forget me not for whatever you do, is a reflection of me…
my memory is living in you
